Orcinus Orca - aka Orca, Killer Whale Photographed off coast of Juneau, AK. Juneau hosts two types of Orca - resident and transient. Transient Orca travel up and down the west coast in small pods and will eat just about anything. Resident Orcas stay in the same area in large groups and typically only eat salmon and other fish in the area but leave whales, sea lions and other animals alone, |
As a reference, the largest fin in the group below is 6 feet tall. |
Haliaeetus leucocephalu - aka American Bald Eagle Photographed in Auke Bay, AK. The American Bald Eagle, the icon of freedom to those in the United States of America, was once hunted to near extinction for fun and to "protect" the fishing industry. In 2007, the bird was removed from the endangered species list. |
Megaptera Novoeangliae - aka Humpback Whale Photographed in the North Pacific Ocean Larger than a school bus, these beautiful mammals can be found in any ocean. Scientists track the humpback whales by identifying them by the marks on their tails. Each tail is like a finger print and is unique by the shape and the white marks that freckle and spot their skin.
