Hi, I’m Marcy.
I grew up an Army brat in the United States and Germany, so travel was my first classroom. Since then I’ve called West Texas, Alabama, Kansas, Florida, Georgia and Germany home, and every address has shaped who I am today.
Then we moved again. Not just houses, or cities, or states, or even countries this time, but continents. Home is now Maastricht, in the south of the Netherlands.
Why Roaming Hippie
This is the personal side of my travels: the photographs. Beauty is everywhere. It’s in the flower breaking through the sidewalk in SoHo. It’s in the way the sun pokes out ray by ray from behind a mountain in Germany. It’s in the way an elephant looks into your soul and seems to say “thank you for loving me.”
Sometimes you have to find your lowest point in order to look up at what God has blessed us with. I wish I could capture the emotion I feel at the moment I take every picture. I guess that’s what photography is: trying to capture an emotion.
Roaming Hippie and Roaming History
I’m also a historian and a guide here in Maastricht, and the stories behind the stone live on my sister site, Roaming History. Think of them as two halves of the same trip: Roaming History is where I go digging into what happened in a place. Roaming Hippie is where I simply stop and look.
The rest of me
When I’m not behind a camera, I’m a proud mother of three, grandmother of two, wife of one, and loyal companion to a couple of perfect pitties.
Come roaming with me
New photos show up on Facebook and Instagram first.
